The job of the Florida Climate and Energy Commission was transferred this last legislative session to Florida Commissioner of Agriculture, Adam Putnam. No, that doesn’t make any sense. Yes, you know why it happened.
Previous work in Florida on climate change has been dumped down an Orwellian memory hole. For example, Governor Charlie Crist held two “Climate and Energy” Summits that got enormous attention. No information about those Summits is available at the Department of Agriculture Energy website. Nor is there a link to the multimillion dollar reports from the previous Governor’s “Climate and Energy Action Team.”
Today, the words “climate change” and “global warming” are to be avoided. We can see this in how Commissioner Putnam structured an October “Energy Summit” intended “to advance the production of biomass, hydrogen, fuel cell and solar energy.” The two forbidden phrases are missing from the publicity sites for the Summit.
I wonder if it is too late for me to nominate Stephen Colbert to keynote the Department of Agriculture “Energy” Summit:
